This term's lectures
A selection of courses from the Michaelmas Term. Open enrollment closes a fortnight before the first lecture.
- Calculus I — Limits, Derivatives, and the Slope of Change A first encounter with the central tool of modern mathematics. Twelve weeks, weekly problem sets, two examinations.
- Antiquity — From Sumer to the Fall of Rome A grand survey of ancient history. Primary sources in translation, weekly discussion sections, one term paper.
- Mechanics & Motion — Classical Physics Newton, Galileo, and the mathematics of moving things. Home laboratory work, weekly experiments, careful grading.
- Latin I — Grammar, Vocabulary, and First Readings The Wheelock method, modernized. We read Caesar by week ten.
- Logic & the Foundations of Argument Propositional and predicate logic. A semester of careful thinking — for the philosopher, the mathematician, and the lawyer-to-be.
- Rhetoric & Composition — The Examined Essay Write to think. Five essays, three rewrites each, one capstone.
